Game-Day Filming Tips

Battery, storage, and where to stand — small things that make better clips.

None of this is required — but each tip makes game day a little smoother.

Before you leave the house

  • Charge your phone. Filming a full game is one of the hardest things a phone battery does. A small battery pack in your bag is cheap insurance for tournament weekends.
  • Check your space. A full game takes a few gigabytes. ClipPin checks your storage and battery before recording and warns you if either looks tight — but the parking lot is a bad place to find out.
  • Wipe the lens. A phone that's been in a pocket has a smudged lens, and a smudge makes everything look foggy. One wipe on your shirt fixes it.

At the field

  • Stand near the middle of the field or court if you can, a few steps up in the stands. Higher is better — you see over heads and across the whole play.
  • Keep the sun behind you when you have the choice. Filming into the sun turns players into silhouettes.
  • Zoom less than you think. Wobble grows with zoom. Walking ten steps closer beats zooming to 5×.
  • Use the volume buttons to mark so you never look down at the screen.

Good to know

  • No signal? No problem. Filming, marking, scoring, and saving clips all work with zero bars. Only live score sharing needs a connection.
  • The screen stays awake all game on its own.
  • After the game, once your clips are saved, ClipPin offers to delete the full-game video and free up the space. Your clips and marks are never touched.
